This book tells the story of one of the most notorious German SS Panzer Divisions of the Second World War.
Seen by some, mostly German speaking nations, as being heroic and brave young men, most English speaking nations would be more likely to remember them for the murders and atrocities which they committed against innocent civilians and unarmed prisoners of war, in a number of locations throughout German occupied Europe. The book looks at each of the atrocities that the division was responsible for, and some of the more notorious members who served with them. One thing that is abundantly clear is that for the number of atrocities that the division carried out and the number of deaths these resulted in, very few members of the division stood trial at the end of the war for the crimes they had committed. Proof if needed that Nazi indoctrination and propaganda did not end well for those who were on the receiving end of it.
